Our Name

Steera is a play on the sanskrit word Sthira, which means strength or stability.  It comes from the yoga sutra, “Sthira Sukham Asanam”, which means you should practice yoga with strength AND flexibility.  These are essential principles for business as well. We believe a strong foundation built on purpose and values combined with a culture that allows for the agility to adapt in an ever-changing world are the keys to resilient, enduring, high performance organizations.

Janice Hassenfeld
Founder & CEO


Janice brings a unique depth of knowledge and passion to her advising and coaching work. Having spent the first part of her career as a corporate banker working with diverse portfolios of companies, she developed a broad-based knowledge and understanding of different industries and an ability to really understand a business’s needs. A natural problem solver and collaborator, the work she found most interesting and rewarding was "workouts" - helping companies in financial distress back to health. She left banking to serve as CFO of a privately owned pharmaceutical packaging company which she successfully helped lead from early stage through acquisition. There she was also instrumental in creating a positive, strengths-based culture where every employee was valued and provided meaningful opportunities for development and growth.

After the business was sold, Janice furthered her passion for developing people and creating great workplaces by completing her Master's in Organizational Psychology. Janice holds her BA in Managerial Economics from Union College, an MA in Organizational Psychology from Hofstra University, and is an accredited Strengths Profile coach.
